Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) are breathing tests that serve the purpose of assessing how well you move air in and out of your lungs. They also measure how well your lungs absorb oxygen into your blood stream.

These tests help diagnose certain respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD and cystic fibrosis on the lungs, and also help to measure their severity. The results help physicians direct your treatment.

Another purpose of PFTs is assessing whether acute illness like pneumonia, or exposures to substances in the home or workplace have harmed your lungs

In Alberta, PFTs require a referral from a physician, and are typically 45 minutes long. Currently Precision Pulmonary Diagnostics can book you in for a PFT within 1-2 weeks of referral.
